Abstract: To determine the optimum pH conditions and provide basic information for intensive production of Chlorella vulgaris, the effects of different pH values on chlorophyll fluorescence, chlorophyll content and cell density during its culture process have been studied. The results show that when pH is 9 the maximum energy conversion rate(Fv/Fm), the actual photochemical efficiency(ΦPSⅡ)and the quantum efficiency(Yield)decreased; meanwhile, the potential energy(Fv/F0), relative electronic conversion rate(ETR), chlorophyll content(CHL)and the density of Chlorella increasing trend was minimum. When pH is 7, chlorophyll fluorescence are higher than the other groups with the values 1 613.05 µg/L, 1.13×107 cells/mL respectively. The chlorophyll content and cell density of pH 9 treatment group were 883.82 µg/L and 6.77×106cells/mL. The optimum growth pH of Chlorella is 7, and pH 9 can obviously inhibit the growth of Chlorella.
