Abstract: Critical thinking is one of the ability objectives of English majors. Exploring the training methods and paths of critical thinking ability in professional courses is the key to cultivating critical thinking. Through the teaching practice of Advanced English, a compulsory course for English majors, and using the critical thinking measurement scale CTDI-CV to evaluate the critical thinking tendency before and after teaching, it is found that the mean value of critical thinking tendency has been significantly improved. At the same time, the added value of critical thinking tendency of girls is higher than that of boys. The results show that the teaching mode of “student-autonomy, peer-interaction, project-cooperation and online-offline teaching” in Advanced English is effective in improving students’ critical thinking ability, and has reference value for further improving the critical thinking ability of English majors.
