Abstract: Pyomrtra is a common disease in adult bitches and cats. It is characterized by acute or chronic pyogenic bacterial infection in the uterus after estrus and accumulation of inflammatory exudates in the uterine cavity, presenting local and systemic clinical and pathological symptoms. This disease often occurs in the luteal phase. Progesterone plays a key role in the initiation of opportunistic pathogen infection. The most common pathogen is Escherichia coli, which can cause a variety of clinical symptoms and can be life-threatening in severe cases. This article reviewed the epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of uterine pyometra in dogs and cats, including surgical treatment, drug treatment and prevention, in order to provide evidence for the prevention and treatment of the disease.
