Abstract: Flavonoids effective components, which possess anti-ultraviolet radiation effect through absorbing a broad spectrum of ultraviolet radiation and eliminating reactive oxygen species induced by ultraviolet radiation, are abundant in extracts from some Chinese medicine. Thus, in this investigation, ethanol extracts were acquired firstly through ultrasonic method and total flavonoid content was measured. On the basis of full wave scanning in ultraviolet area, absorptive effect of ultraviolet radiation was confirmed for ethanol extracts. Afterwards, eliminative effects of hydroxyl free radical and superoxide anion were studied and in vitro anti-ultraviolet experiments were established using E.coli as model bacteria. Through this investigation, it was confirmed that ethanol extracts from Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi do have anti-ultraviolet radiation effect and this effect is dose dependent.
