Abstract: The stem sections of Cotoneaster hjelmqvistii plantlet in vitro were inoculated in the soil supporting medium and placed in field to investigate the possibility of Cotoneaster hjelmqvistii micro shoots in vitro rooting in the field environmental condition. The results showed that the index of rooting and growth, the stomata closing function and the survival rate of the Cotoneaster hjelmqvistii plantlet cultured in fields in period from April 21st to May 31st demonstrate no significant differences compared with those of the plantlets cultured in incubation chamber, with rooting rate of 95.8% and transplanting survival rate of 98.8%. The period from April 21st to May 31st was suitable period for Cotoneaster hjelmqvistii micro shoots in vitro rooting in field and the sub-suitable period was from May 22nd to July 1st. These results indicated that Cotoneaster hjelmqvistii micro shoots in vitro rooting in the field environment is feasible and worthy of further study.
