Abstract: Hemibarbus labeo is a new variety introduced to Tianjin for the first time. To study the techniques and experiences for the pond culture of Hemibarbus labeo, during the breeding season in 2009 and 2010, it is monitored the factors of water environment around the experimental area. The results show that the salinity of water varies from 2.98 to 4.87, and the pH value ranges from 8.3 to 8.6. The hardness, alkalinity and content of nutrient in the water are high, the biomass of plankton is much, and the change trend is the same, that is, each index in 2010 is lower than that in 2009. In the experimental area, the closed recirculation aquaculture systems can keep the water environment stable, and this shows that the biological purification has certain good effect on water quality improvement. For the cultured 3-year Hemibarbus labeo, the average body length and weight is 24.9 cm and 250.8 g, respectively, and the product reaches 7 605 kg/hm2.
