Study on the effect of feather degradation by recombinant keratinase on soaking seeds to accelerate germination and pot culture of wheat

Abstract: In order to make rational use of keratin, a by-product of poultry production, and reduce environmental pollution, Bacillus licheniformis N5 gene was selected to express keratinase in Escherichia coli, and then feather was degraded, and degradation solution was prepared for wheat seed soaking to accelerate germination and root irrigation of potted wheat. The results showed that the highest germination potential and germination rate of wheat were 82.7% and 97.3%, respectively, which were increased by 7.7% and 6.4% compared with the control group. The application of feather degradation solution with amino acid concentration of 1.03mg/mL was the best condition for wheat growth index and root growth, with fresh weight increased by 9% and dry weight increased by 4.8 compared with the control group.It can be seen that feather degradation liquid can promote wheat germination and growth, and can be further developed into amino acid fertilizer.
