Foreign Language Education and the “World Citizen” Orientation

Abstract: This paper presents much thinking caused by some negative phenomena appearing in the society for the past two years. These phenomena might have associated with the orientation of values happening in higher education. Higher foreign language education especially should take the responsibility of cultivating the students as “world citizen” rather than training tools. The important function of language social competence is to borrow language to transmit features of truth, kindness and beauty of human being by the world culture guidance, close attention to the inside of student thoughts, caring modern personality transformation, namely the generation of difference-orientated value in persons education. Only by focusing on the student adult-shaping process, can we truly achieve students’ all-round “world citizen” development, and promote “one belt, one road” construction and integration society into the world.
