A New Edge Detection Method for Chromosome Image

Abstract: Detecting more edge details and reducing the noise impact to the largest degree is the key of edge detection for chromosome. In this report, a new edge detection method is proposed. The method is based on iterative thresholding and mathematic morphology. First of all, the iterative thresholding algorithm is used to enhance the edge of the chromosomes and the contrast of the image. Then, the edges of the chromosomes in the image can be detected using the contour extracting algorithm. By completing the experiment, it can be found that the new method is much better for chromosome image detection than the commonly used differential operators.
