Abstract: Bacillus velezensis, which is a new species of Bacillus, can promote plant growth and inhibit plant pathogens in agriculture and has great potential to be developed as a biocontrol agent. It can also be used in industry to degrade industrial harmful by-products and be widely used in biomedicine. Therefore, it has attracted much attention in recent years. In this paper, the discovery and classification, genome research, biological control and application of B. velezensis were reviewed in order to provide reference for further research and development.

Key words: Bacillus velezensis, taxonomy, biological control, secondary metabolites
