Abstract: The ingestion is the basic activity to maintain the growth and development of poultry, and the energy balance and utilization in short-term depend on the ingestion modulation system, which controls the start and end time of each ingestion. The hypothalamus modulates the short-term feeding behavior through the ingestion and satiation central nervous system network, which refers to many neuropeptides, including neuropeptide Y, agouti-related protein, orexin stimulating appetite, as well as pro-opiomelanocortin and α-melanocyte stimulating hormone inhibiting appetite and so on. These neuropeptides play an important role in regulating ingestion activity of poultry.

Key words: poultry, hypothalamus, food intake, neuropeptide
