Abstract: Through random field trials, the effect of different planting densities(90 000, 120 000, 150 000 and 180 000 plants/hm2)on the agronomic characteristics, biological yield and quality of forage sorghum variety ‘TS-185’ were analyzed. The results showed that the number of forage sorghum tillers, the diameter of the main stem, the height of the main stem and tillers, the fresh weight of the stem, the dry weight of the stem and the grain protein content increased first and then decreased with the increase of the planting density. There are significant differences between the treatments on the height of main stem and the change of grain protein content; the stem thickness of the tiller was the largest when the density was the largest; the ear length of the main stem and that of the tiller, the fresh weight of the main stem, the thousand-grain weight, the dry weight of the ear, the thickness of the stem and the protein showed an obvious downward trend with the increase of density, and the change of the fresh weight of the main stalk panicle had a significant difference. The results of this experiment showed that there are significant differences in the effect of planting density on different agronomic characteristics; at the same time, when the planting density is 90 000 plants/hm2 and 120 000 plants/hm2, the yield and quality reach a higher level.
