Abstract: The salinized land area of Tianjin accounts for 65.8% of the total land area of Tianjin, and the pepper planting area of Tianjin is about 2 133 hm2. The yield of pepper affects the vegetable basket project in Tianjin, soit is important to study the growth of pepper in salinized soil. The effects of salicylic acid on physiological characteristics of pepper seedlings under salt stress were studied. The results showed that salicylic acid had no effect on the proline content of pepper seedlings under the condition of no salt. Salicylic acid significantly increased the soluble sugar content of pepper seedlings, the activities of peroxidase(POD)and that of superoxide dismutase(SOD). Under the condition of 60 mmol/L and 120 mmol/L salt concentration, salicylic acid significantly increased the content of proline and soluble sugar, significantly increased the activities of POD and SOD, and significantly reduced the content of malondialdehyde(MAD). Salicylic acid can improve the salt resistance of pepper seedlings by increasing the content of osmotic substances and the activity of antioxidant enzymes.
