Abstract: Through investigating the poverty alleviation work of Shanxi Meteorological Bureau in Guangling County over the past few years, we know that it is necessary for the meteorological departments to actively take part in and find out the joint point of meteorological service and precise poverty alleviation work, in order to strengthen the capacity building andintegrate meteorological services into the precise poverty alleviation work. In this paper, the poverty area’s situation was introduced, highlights of Shanxi Meteorological Bureau’s poverty alleviation work was summarized, factors that affect the alleviation of poverty and achieving prosperity were analyzed, and some inspirations brought by precise poverty alleviation work to meteorological departments were proposed. The paper suggests that meteorological service for precise poverty alleviation should do jobs from the 4 following aspects: investigating the demand of poor people for meteorological service; increasing the distribution channels of meteorological information; improving the benefit of meteorological service; enhancing the ability of poor people to prevent and reduce disaster. The meteorological departments should also strengthen basic business work, refine climate zoning, carry out special meteorological service, keep stability and cultivation of technicians and provide guarantee for the sustainable development of meteorological services for precise poverty alleviation.
